How To Be Stress-Free: The Palm Beaches Style

September 4th, 2019

We all experience stress, no matter where we live. But as one recent study attests, sometimes where you are can really wreak havoc on your well-being. Of the 39 cities in The Palm Beaches, not one made the list of the 182 “most stressed” cities in the U.S., and we’re perfectly ok with that.

So, how do locals in The Palm Beaches remain mostly stress-free, and how can you ease your tension when visiting?

Get Out and Play

The warm Florida sun breaks through shady branches as you take a leisurely paddle, hearing the sounds of ospreys calling and glimpsing a school of fish slicing through the water beneath you…

You’re relaxed already, aren’t you? Just imagine how it feels to take part in one of the many outdoor activities available in The Palm Beaches. Paddleboarding and kayaking are just the beginning—we’ve also got world-class diving and snorkeling, boating and fishing, and more, including plentiful nature trails perfect for strolling.

Then there are our legendary golf courses, more than 150 that are both challenging and picturesque, and—of course—47 miles of coastline. The sun-kissed sand on our beautiful beaches is warm and waiting for you to pull up a towel and relax.

Indulge in Retail Therapy

We all know retail therapy is effective at relieving stress—it’s science—and there’s really no better place to shop than The Palm Beaches.

Start at Palm Beach’s Worth Avenue, which rivals shopping legends like Rodeo Drive and Fifth Avenue. Stores here include Chanel, Gucci and Jimmy Choo, which are fun to window-shop even if they are out of your budget.

In West Palm Beach, stroll Rosemary Square and Clematis Street, two of our favorite walkable districts for shopping, dining and entertainment. Delray Beach’s charming Atlantic Avenue is lined with boutiques selling apparel to fun finds from local artisans; Boca Raton has the upscale Mizner Park; and Palm Beach Gardens’ indoor The Gardens Mall and outdoor PGA Commons offer something for everyone.

Admire the Arts

From world-class museums to performing arts houses hosting award-winning acts, The Palm Beaches are the place for art lovers. View permanent collections and visiting exhibitions at the Norton Museum of Art or the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Visit the Flagler Museum to see period furnishings and works of art set in a mansion straight out of the Gilded Age. Stroll the gardens of Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens to really get your Zen on.

See top touring acts like “Rock of Ages” and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, watch Broadway-caliber musicals at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre (“Mamma Mia!” anyone?), and attend any one of our festivals celebrating music, the stage and more.

Eat (and Drink) Well

No matter where in The Palm Beaches you are, there’s a restaurant nearby serving up dishes that will make you sigh with pleasure. Many are waterfront or offer outdoor seating, which means you get the added benefit of breathing in the salt air and feeling the sea breeze as you dine.
Choose from celebrity-chef hot spots or casual seafood shacks, and (try to) leave room for dessert. Chocoholics shouldn’t miss Hoffman’s Chocolates, and the Pepto-pink, Wonderland-like Sloan’s Ice Cream has locations throughout the county.

If relaxing with a pint is more your style, visit one of our craft breweries along The Ale Trail of The Palm Beaches—they’re truly taking creativity to a new level, with tap lists featuring names like Coffee Sea Cow and Lime Coastline. Want to visit more than one? Let the Damn Good Beer Bus take you on a sampling tour and serve as your DD.

With all of these options, it’s no wonder we aren’t feeling any stress here.
